RECIPE: Fresh Strawberry Granita

Fresh Strawberry Granita

Quote from people who tried it:
"delicious"
and I have to agree.  I would definitely
in retrospect have chilled the syrup before
starting the mixing.......otherwise,
it was .....toooo....frustrating.

GREAT ON A HOT SUMMER DAY

A frozen mixture of water, sugar and flavorings.  It is frequently stirred during the freezing process to produce a fine icy texture.

PREP TIME  15 minutes.  TOTAL TIME about overnight,  Calories 130, 4 servings

INGREDIENTS
3/4 CUP WATER
1/2 CUP SUGAR
1/8 TSP SALT
1/2 POUND STRAWBERRIES, HULLED
1 TBSP LEMON JUICE
2 TBSP CURRANT-FLAVORED OR PLAIN VODKA
ADDITIONAL SLICED STRAWBERRIES AND VODKA (OPTIONAL)

DIRECTIONS
1  Combine water, sugar and salt.  Cook over low heat 3 minutes or until sugar is dissolved, removed from heat.  Place strawberries in blender.  Puree.  Add strawberries, lemon juice and vodka to sugar syrup, mix well.  Pour into stainless mixing bowl.  What I decided to do was put everything into my Ice Cream mixer bowel, what I didn't do and should have was cool everything down before I put it in the bowl.  Next time..............That way you can skip step 2 and just mix for 30 minutes......like I say, live and learn.

2.  Place in freezer; freeze 2 to 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes until completely frozen and mixture appears finely chopped.  Cover; freeze until ready to serve.  If desired, serve with additional sliced strawberries and drizzle with additional vodka.
