This is one of several times I have eaten at the Wildfire Grill in Chicago. It is near the Renaissance Schaumburg. It was a full 4 days of meetings, spread over 5 days, and I have to tell you it was exhausting. Part of the problem is the format, well it is typical for all meetings, large groups of people discussing hundreds of Resolutions of which 10 will become part of the platform for the AAP. Those of you who attend meetings understand the issue, sitting for long periods of time, listening to presentations, standing, eating, and sitting again. The only break was this dinner which was great because I got to meet my Canadian friends and spouses of colleagues, etc.
However, the restaurant had to feed all of us at once and so, my need "to eat with dignity" was exchanged for a bunch of food that wasn't plated, just stuck on the table in mass quantities for all of us to dig it. Oh well. I would rather have ordered one small salad (instead of two greasy appetizers (ariichoke dip and deep tried calamari) two large chopped salads, overcooked chicken and rubbery meat, and desserts). One of those well plated and cooked to perfection would have been enough, if plated beautifully. Oh and the end result was a GI upset that lasted for 2 days.
The meal started at 7:30 pm and ended near 10 pm. It was great to be taken out to eat and I appreciate that and I don't know how else to do this. Sit around a fireplace with a few raw vegetable and some mineral water? But where? Maybe what I want is to have a home instead of an apartment, live near a park and invite people over...mmmmmm, have a small pet to take for walks.....it is sounding like a plan I can live with...You'll see how this turns out in the next few months or year maybe. Signing off.
